Pottery for Everyone - Glazing (Tues)

Students will receive glazes and creative tips onhow to finish pots made in a prior class. A materials fee of $25 is payable to the instructor at the first class.

Bridgette Kinney has been a potter for 14 years and is the owner and operator of Dragon’s Breath Pottery in Warren.

Have your cake and cheese it, too! Learn to make a basic New York style cheesecake from scratch and three additional variations – amaretto, holiday peppermint, and oreo. It’s easier than you think!

Bring a container for leftovers, just in case. Participants will take home copies of all recipes.

Sharon Sperry is a retired Head of International Schools who has had a passion for cooking her entire life. She’s cooked for ambassadors, kings and, of course, children and their teachers. She invites you to share her enthusiasm for good food enjoyed with family and friends.

Sea Glass Picture Workshop (Apr)

With the guidance of the instructor, you will create and seal your own 11 x 14 sea glass picture. All materials including sea glass will be provided, however you are welcome to bring any sea glass of your own. Pictures will not be able to go home with you that evening because of the drying process, but may be picked up the following day.

Crystal Lee grew up with the ocean in her backyard and has always loved searching for sea glass. She creates ocean inspired jewelry with metal stamps, lobster/mussel shells and sea glass. Crystal started a home business in 2013 called Lobsterman’s Wife and sells many of her ocean inspired art and jewelry on Etsy.

Standard First Aid, CPR, AED

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a technique to keep oxygenated blood flowing to vital organs of the body – especially the brain and heart – after cardiac arrest. Coupled with appropriate use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), many victims of sudden cardiac arrest may recover with minimal or no after effects. This course will teach participants the skills necessary to save a life: CPR/AED for adults, children and infants, and how to deal with heart attack/cardiac arrest, stroke and choking. The First Aid component teaches participants to recognize and care for sudden illnesses like anaphylactic shock (severe, life-threatening allergic reactions), head and spinal injuries, chest and abdominal injuries, diabetic emergencies, poisoning, bites and stings, musculoskeletal injuries, bleeding control, burns, heat and cold emergencies, and seizures.

This is a “lay responder” or “community” level course, suitable for the general public, as well as occupations such as Adult or Child Care Providers, Driver Education/Motorcycle Rider Instructors, Maine Guides, massage therapists, etc. Participants successfully completing the program will receive a two-year certification in these skills.

This program has been approved for Child Care and Adult Care Providers (ME DHHS), Driver Education/Motorcycle Instructors (ME BMV), Maine Guides (ME IFW), and maritime licensing (USCG). The program meets or exceeds all applicable medical and/or OSHA guidlines.

Andrew Eckman has been involved in Emergency Services since 1975, and has served as a police officer, firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician, emergency manager, and disaster manager. He has been a medical instructor for more than 25 years.

 

This is a required course for anyone applying for a crossbow hunting license. It covers the history of crossbows, responsibility and ethics, shooting and handling, laws and safety, and special concerns. A test will be administered and certification awarde

The Online Course requires that students complete the knowledge portion of the course online prior to attending the skills and exam sessions (2 classes). The online portion of the course takes approximately 7 hours to complete. Students complete quizzes and an exam as they do the online course and are provided with a voucher to attend the skills and exam sessions upon completion of the online exam.

In the skills and exam sessions students must demonstrate to the instructor that they can safely handle a firearm, participate in activities, bring in a survival kit with appropriate contents and pass a 50 question test with a grade of at least 70%. Students must complete the online course and provide their voucher number to attend the skills and exam sessions. Students must also bring the voucher to the first class.
