Posture, Core & Balance

$54

with Stacy Graffam

Calendar Apr 23, 2019 at 5:30 pm, runs for 6 weeks

You will learn how to regain good posture by correcting bad habits. Poor posture leads to rounded shoulders, kyphosis, neck and back pain and the appearance of getting shorter.  You will find, use and strengthen your core. Having a strong core and applying it in your everyday activities will reduce stress and strain on your joints, bones and muscles.  It is a myth that we lose our balance with aging. We simply lose our balance because we practice it less. Sitting, knitting, watching tv and playing cards doesn’t encourage your body to balance. You will learn ways to encourage balance in everyday life. Wear comfortable clothing, sneakers and bring a bottle of water.

Tai Chi / Qigong for Balance Enhancement – Level 1

$69

with Mary Anne Moisan

Calendar Mar 5, 2019 at 3 pm, runs for 6 weeks

This is an introductory class, suitable for participants new to Tai Chi or practicing at a beginner level. The term Tai Chi, translated from its original Chinese, means “Supreme Ultimate Balance”. So what better activity could there be to enhance your physical balance skills? In class, you will learn to integrate the basic principles of Tai Chi - posture, breathing, slow movements and focused intentions – into specific movement patterns or “gestures”. Starting seated in a chair and moving to standing, we will begin to build a repertoire of movement patterns, all with an emphasis on enhancing balance skills.

Mary Anne Moisan is a Physical Therapist and Balance Enhancement Specialist. She currently works for Miles and St. Andrew’s Home Health and Hospice and is excited to include Tai Chi in her professional resume.
