Travel, Vacations, and Race in America
with Leigh Anne Keichline

The date of this class has changed.
Curiosity will be the vehicle for discussion as we consider excerpts from several resources, including both the PBS film Driving While Black and the book Driving While Black, and the highly acclaimed How the Word Is Passed. These will provide insight into the“Green Book,” into modern-day historical sites and how history is shared there, and will provide a historical scope on mobility and cars through a uniquely American lens — and the lens of race. Students will be asked to purchase one book for the course, and have the option to purchase others or borrow from the library. Short additional readings will be provided.
