Awareness Through Movement - The Feldenkrais Method - Session 1

Calendar Jan 29, 2018 at 5 pm, runs for 7 weeks

The Feldenkrais Method is a type of neuromuscular re-education that will enable your body to do more than it has in years. These gentle movement sequences will help you work through chronic muscular or joint pain. This is not an exercise class, so loose fitting or stretchy casual clothes are appropriate. Please bring a mat and two thick towels to class.

 

Babysitters Training Course

Please note: April 19th is a Thursday, not a Friday, as it was incorrectly listed in our brochure.

Learn the skills and techniques necessary to be a responsible, competent and fun babysitter in a one-day class. This course will cover such topics as: child care essentials, the proper response and handling of emergency situations, behavior management, safety for the sitter, and babysitting as a business. Students should bring a lunch and a snack. Please do not bring any electronics or phones. For students ages 11-14. A certificate is issued upon successful completion of the course. Register EARLY – this class fills up quickly!

Basic Bird-Watching

Calendar May 3, 2018 at 7 pm, runs for 6 weeks

This is an introductory course designed to help you feel comfortable and proficient in one of the USA’s most popular hobbies. The course assumes that the student has only a minimal or no knowledge of birds but wants to acquire skills to identify birds by sight and sound. Students will learn how to find, identify, attract and enjoy the birds of the Midcoast area. The last class session is a walk along a local trail which will help you practice your new bird-watching skills.

Stan L. LeQuire is a life-long naturalist, guide and outdoorsman. He enjoys teaching sustainable development to college students. In addition, he researches best practices of community-based ecotourism as a model for development.

Becoming a Substitute Teacher for RSU 40

Join us to learn about becoming a substitute teacher for RSU 40. This session will be presented by RSU 40 employees to provide you with the needed information to apply to be a substitute teacher. Topics will include expectations, school schedules, discipline strategies, survival skills and more. Bring your questions.

 

Beginner Hooping

This beginner hoop class is a great foundation to build core strength and get you moving and dancing with your hoop! Students will learn basic waist hooping, off body hooping as well as tricks and transitions to help you create your own kind of workout or flow. Hoops are provided with the option to buy!

New England based hooper Nikki Hunt has been hooping for 11 years and teaching hoop dance for the past six years. As lead singer/hooper of The Nikki Hunt Band for the past 8 years, Nikki has performed all over New England at various events ranging from Cirque du Soliel to Kidabaloo.

Beginners Pottery Class

Calendar Feb 27, 2018 at 6 pm, runs for 5 weeks

An introductory class, for creating pots on the wheel or by hand. Students receive 25 lbs of a high stoneware clay to create with. A materials fee of $30 is payable to the instructor at the first class.

Bridgette Kinney has been a potter for 14 years and is the owner and operator of Dragon’s Breath Pottery in Warren.

Beginning Belly Dance

If you have a joy of movement, this dance is for you – come celebrate! Belly Dance, also known as Oriental Dance, is the dance native to the ancient Middle East. Widely spread and integrated by the migrating Rom peoples from India to Spain, it is now commonly practiced world wide. The class will introduce the signature torso movements and rhythms of this dance art, which provide gentle and strengthening full-body exercise, with an emphasis on the belly and thighs. Students will accomplish a simple choreography during the session. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing or dancewear and bring a large scarf for the hips.

Patti Luchetti has studied and performed Oriental Dance for 25 years in Maine, NYC and abroad.

 

Certified Nursing Assistant CNA

Do you want to begin a healthcare career? Become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for free! 

In partnership with LincolnHealth we offer a 10-week course to train students to become CNAs. CNAs are caregivers who work directly with patients and residents to assist them with daily needs and make them feel safe and comfortable. The course is taught by a registered nurse and is three days a week.

Additionally, accepted students may apply for the CNA Apprenticeship Program. If accepted, students will be paid while in the CNA Training Program in exchange for a work commitment.

Applications for the spring CNA class are being accepted through March 1, 2018. The class will begin April 17 2018.
