Household Cleaning Hacks with Essential Oils

How many chemicals are in your cleaning supplies? Did you know that there are 84,000 industrial chemicals that are used in household cleaners? The truth is many ingredients in the common household cleaning products we’ve grown to trust are harmful to our health. Most people aren’t aware of the hidden dangers these popular cleaning products present to ourselves, our families, and our pets.

In this class, we will learn about the top 10 most dangerous chemicals found in cleaning products and why to avoid them. We will learn DIY recipes on chemical-free cleaning using essential oils and other common ingredients found in the household. Every student will be given free samples of essential oil to try these chem-free cleaners at home!

Katie Deabler has been a wellness advocate for 4 years. She specializes in natural living with the use of essential oils. She makes her own household cleaners, candles, and skincare line from natural ingredients.

iPhone Basics - April

In this class you will learn the basics of how to use your iPhone. You may bring your iPhone with you to follow along or you may just watch. The course instructor will demonstrate basic functions of your iPhone, how to change settings, navigate the web and also downloading apps. We will have time for questions at the end of the class.

Kayla Sikora is the director of the RSU 40 Adult Education progam. Kayla loves technology and wants to share her knowledge with the community.

Kitchen Cabinet Basics (Wed)

For anyone considering building their own cabinets for kitchen, bath or utility rooms, this course is for you. We will discuss design, materials, construction techniques and hardware choices. No materials needed.

Instructor Rick Gallion has been a professional woodworker for thirty years and has taught many students the craft of woodworking. His new shop is designed as a teaching facility. All classes will be held at the Clary Lake Woodworking School at 777 Gardiner Road (Hwy 126), Jefferson. Class size is limited. Safety glasses provided for each class.

Maine Driving Dynamics Course

Maine Driving Dynamics is a Maine sponsored five hour defensive driving course that offers all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving skills. Course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine’s highways. It is taught by a certified Maine Driving Dynamics instructor in a format that engages students with lectures, videos, and class discussion/participation.

Those completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record and students 55 and older can receive an insurance discount from their insurer. But best of all, we believe that students taking this course will be safer drivers. They will leave the class with a new and unique way of looking at the driving experience.

Making Jewelry with Sea Glass

Beautiful pieces of natural sea glass are turned into wearable art in this class. Learn some of the basics of jewelry making as you create a pendant and earrings out of sea glass. Sea glass and wire will be provided by the instructor but feel free to bring your own pieces. Each student will need his or her own pair of needle-nose pliers. Please bring a $15 materials fee payable to the instructor the first night of class.

Lynne Thompson has been creating sea glass jewelry since 1996 after moving to New Harbor, Maine.

Medicare and Understanding It

This course will review the following areas: when you are eligible for Medicare benefits; the timeline to enroll for Medicare benefits without penalties; what original Medicare covers and does not cover; and what additional plans are available that work in conjunction with original Medicare. Financial assistance options will also be discussed briefly.

Robert Harvey is a licensed Life and Health agent with offices in Brunswick and Scarborough Maine. He has been assisting clients with reviewing and enrolling in individual health insurance plans and transitioning on to Medicare coverage for the last 10 years.

Mexican Night - Make Your Own Tortilla Press

Make your own tortilla press for fresh corn tortillas! Afterward we will fill them with tasty salsa, rice, chipotle beef, cheese, and fresh lettuce. Yum! We will also make an easy cold avocado soup. You will go home with a full stomach, new recipes, and your own tortilla press! This class is a great option for both vegetarian and gluten free diets. Bring a Phillips screwdriver for assembly. Materials fee included.

Chris Toy is a Stonewall Kitchen Cooking Instructor with alifelong interest in cooking with an Asian-Downeast fusion flavor.

Notary Public Training

An excellent course for anyone considering becoming a notary public or for a notary who has not had formal training. The material to be covered will include the application and requirements for notaries, the duties and tasks performed by the notary, and the rules governing notaries. The workbook needed can be easily printed from the State’s website at http://www.state.me.us/sos/cec/notary/notaryguide.pdf or can be used online.
